Palliative/Supportive Care
 Consultation Services

With healthcare becoming increasingly fast-paced, patients with serious illness benefit from expert symptom management, goals of care conversation, and advance care planning to improve overall quality of life. Palliative, or Supportive care,  focuses on the whole person, not just the illness. Karin will work with you, your family and your healthcare providers to make sure you are not lost in the medical/healthcare machine. While medications may be appropriate, we can also explore alternative treatments such as holistic physical therapy, massage, and functional medicine to find the relief and support that works for YOU.

What is a serious illness?

A serious illness is a diagnosis of a progressive, possibly life-limiting disease including:
Cancer
Heart Failure
COPD
Alzheimer's Disease and other dementia
Liver or Renal Failure
Parkinson's Disease and other neuromuscular diseases

It's not about dying...
it's about living your best life!

End of Life Consultation Services

Many people find the topic of death and dying to be overwhelming and frightening. In reality, open goals of care conversation, making your wishes known, good symptom management and preparation allow us to “lean in” to the dying process. This is the key to a good death. Karin will work with your providers, hospice team (if you choose hospice), and your family to help coordinate your end of life journey, so you can focus on peace and comfort.

Death with Dignity Guide
Since the Maine Death with Dignity law went into effect in 2019, Karin has worked extensively with patients and physicians to navigate the process. Karin offers education regarding criteria requirements, connection with participating physicians and pharmacies, and a gentle, supportive presence during the entire process for the patient and family.
